Kumbha Bharani Mahotsavam at Karikode Devi Temple, Idukki, is a one-day annual festival celebrated in February or March with traditional rituals and vibrant festivities.

The presiding deity is Bhadrakali. It is a Shilakannadi installation, directing towards west. Three poojas are performed in a day abiding by Kaviyadu thanthra. Kumbha Bharani Mahotsavam Karikode Devi Temple Idukki Kerala Sub-deities are Shiva and Ganapathi. Festival is celebrated during Ashwathy and Bharani star day during the Malayalam of Kumbham. History says that Vadakkumkoor King had prayed and done long penance and brought Kodungaloor Devi to this place. There are a couple of sayings regarding this temple about how the Devi came to this temple. Legend says that the Vadakkumkoor Raja, who ruled over Thodupuzha region in the past, had done long penance before the Goddess Bhadrakali of Kodungallur. Once he was returning from Kodungallur, the Goddess appeared Herself before him near a paddy field of his palace. He at once constructed a temporary shed in the paddy field and started worship. Another story is that the Vadakkumkoor Rajah invoked the powers of the Goddess Bhadrakali in an idol of Goddess and consecrated at the Karikkode temple.

Festival is celebrated during Ashwathy and Bharani star day during the Malayalam of Kumbham. Kudamattam Ceremony, the elephants parade with percussion music is the major attraction of the festival which attracts many. The elephants are decorated with gold plated Caparisons (Nettipattam), Bells (Mani), and Necklaces. People mounted on the elephants hold Tinselled Silk Parasols (Muttukuda) up high, swaying White Tufts (Venchamaram) and Peacock Feather Fans (Alavattam) to the rhythm of the Panchari Melam. Garudan Thookkam (Eagle Hanging) is a ritual art form performs in this temple. The people who dress up as Garuda perform the dance. After the dance performance, the hang-designate dangle from a shaft hooking the skin on his back. In some places, the ritual is performed colorfully with Garudas taken in a procession on bullock carts or boats or hand pulled carts. Other than this Guruzi will be there.
