Kumbabharani Mahotsavam 2026 at Mankuzhikavu Bhagavathy Temple, Idukki is one of the most revered and culturally rich temple festivals in Kerala. This annual celebration marks a period of devotion, traditional rituals and vibrant cultural expressions that bring together devotees from across the region.
The festival is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy, the presiding deity of Mankuzhikavu and is known for its elaborate poojas, sacred offerings and grand processions.
During the five day festival, the temple hosts a variety of religious and cultural programs that cater to devotees of all ages. The celebrations begin with Kalashabhishekam where sacred pots are ritually consecrated followed by special poojas and bhajans that invoke divine blessings and spiritual harmony. Devotees participate in Thiruvathirakali and Kaikottikkali, traditional Kerala dances performed by women and children which showcase the rich heritage and devotional fervor of the region.
The festival also features children’s cultural programs including music, dance and theatrical performances providing a platform for young talents to express their creativity and devotion. In the evenings, processions with decorated lamps, traditional percussion ensembles and devotional music add a grand and festive atmosphere around the temple premises.
One of the highlights of Kumbabharani Mahotsavam is the distribution of Mahaprasad offering devotees a chance to partake in the sacred food consecrated to the deity. The festival serves as a unifying cultural event that transcends social and regional boundaries bringing together people in a shared celebration of faith, art and community spirit.
