The Prathishta Varshikam, Meenabharani Mahotsavam and Thrikodiyettu festival at Cheenthalar Sree Durga Devi Temple, Idukki is one of the most revered and vibrant celebrations in the region. This festival honors the divine presence of Sree Durga Devi, the goddess of strength, protection and prosperity drawing devotees from across Kerala and beyond.
Celebrated with great devotion, the festival combines spiritual rituals, cultural performances and community gatherings making it an event that is both sacred and joyous.
The festival is marked by a series of elaborate temple rituals including Pongala, Thalappoli processions, Valiya Guruthi and Kalasabhishekam all performed under the guidance of the temple priests. Devotees actively participate in these rituals, offering flowers, coconuts and other traditional offerings to seek blessings from the goddess.
The Thrikodiyettu officially inaugurates the festival symbolizing the beginning of auspicious celebrations and the divine protection of the temple premises.
In addition to the spiritual activities, the festival features cultural programs showcasing classical music, traditional dances like Kaikottikali and Thiruvathira and performances by local artists. The atmosphere is further enriched with devotional singing, chanting and the rhythmic sounds of traditional instruments creating a unique blend of spirituality and cultural heritage.
