The origin of the temple is associated with many myths which date backs to the ancient era. Popular
myths has it that once a wandering Brahmin who was on a pilgrimage to the various temples reached
here and got a divine vision of Lord Krishna. After getting the vision of Krishna, he purified his body in the
nearby river (Thodupuzhayar) and offered Nivedyam to the deity by lighting a lamp.
This was on the day of Chothi in the Malayalam month of Meenam. This incident is commonly believed to be the prime reason
for the temple's origin. Later, the raja of Keezhmalanadu constructed a shrine for the deity and
consecrated an idol. At present, the famous Chothioottu feast is conducted in the temple which offers food
free of coast to the pilgrims who arrives here. The temple is now under the administration of board of
trustees Main deity is Chathubahu( four armed) Sreekrishna with butter in one hand. Bhagavathy, Sivan
Sastha, Ganapathy and Nagaraja are other deities. Festival in Meenam (March/April), thiruvonam Arattu,
for 10 days is celebrated with great pomp. This riverside temple has excellent bathing that and is an ideal
place for Sabarimala. 'Utsav Bali', a sacred ceremony is conducted on the ninth day of festivities
accompanied by the presence of thousands of devotees. This temple also have the largest Kalyana
Mandapam or wedding hall in central Travancore region named as Krishna Theertham. During the festival
on the 7th day there is a procession to Mailakombu temple and on the 8th day there is another procession
to Karikode, which is very famous and special. On the 9th day there is Utsava Bali and on that day lots of
devotees throng from different parts of the country. These festival days lots of famous traditional artists
perform here.

Festival in Meenam Thiruvonam Arattu for 10 days is
celebrated with great pomp. There will be lots of traditional
and cultural events on the festival days. Temple and
premises are beautifully decorated. Special poojas will be

place on this period. Several Traditional performing arts like
Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Ottanthullal, musical concerts will
be staged during the festival days which attracts many.
