Thiruvuthsavam is a Hindu festival celebrated annually in the Sree Ayyappa Temple Aanachal, in honour
of the Lord Ayyapa. The festival is celebrated for a period of 8 days in the month of December.
This is the main temple of Lord Ayyappa after the famous Sabarimala temple. At the time of Festival, Krishnaparunth (Brahminy Kite) flies over the Sabarimala temple 3 times and similarly a brahminy kite also flies over this temple three times and it is a very fascinating scene to watch. Temple has 61 years old history.

The festival is celebrated over a period of 8 days and starts with flag hoisting ceremony. From the first day onwards events such as Deeparadhana, Sreebhothabali,Deepakazhcha, Prasada oottu, Kalasabhishekam and Vilakkinezhunnallippu are there. Procession with decorated elephants, folk arts, percussion music, people carrying colorful pots and flowers, floats, Shinkarimelam(ladies) etc gives a grand atmosphere and energy to the festival and it takes place daily too. Second last day is a custom called Pallivetta, that shows Lord Krishna going out for hunting and returns back with elephants, percussion music etc. The festival ends with Arattu and flag downing ceremony.
