Pavakulam Mahadeva Temple is a famous temple located at Kaloor in Emakulam district. The main diety is Lord Shiva facing the east and his consort Goddess Parvathi in the west. Sub deities are Ayyappa, Ganapathi, Murugan, Chamundi, Nagaraja, Dakshinamoorthi etc.
The presiding deity is manifested as Nataraja here - the dancing form of Shiva. Once a hunting couple happened to find the remnants of a temple here. The matter was informed to the head of the clan. Accordingly astrologers found that a self evolved divine power of Shiva is present here. The Pongala festival is an offering to Goddess Parvathy.

Pongala is offered to Parvathi Devi and thousands of lady
devotees take part in this festival. Divya Thali Darshanam
and procession are conducted on the seventh day of the
festival, in which the procession starts from
Sree
Rajarajeshwari temple at Palarivattom. One full day is kept
apart during the festival for Nirthotsavam in which a large
number of professional as well as emerging dancers take
part. Thiruvathirakali Competition is another event
conducted during the festival. The festival is celebrated on a
grand scale and Pongala is offered on the last day of the
festival coinciding with the full moon day of Medam. Women
prepare offerings in pots on hearths and pay obeisance to
the Mother Goddess representing the Universal Energy.
