Meenappura Mahotsavam at Palakuzha Bhagavathi Temple, Ernakulam is one of the most vibrant and spiritually significant festivals in Kerala attracting devotees from across the region. Celebrated with great devotion, the festival honors Devi Bhadrakali, a fierce and powerful goddess who is believed to protect the devotees and vanquish evil forces.
The festival is deeply rooted in Kerala’s traditional temple culture, blending ritualistic worship, classical performing arts and community celebrations in a unique spiritual experience.
During the festival, the temple comes alive with a series of elaborate rituals including Ganapathi Homam, Kalasha Abhishekam, Deeparadhana and Annadanam all conducted under the guidance of learned Tantriks and priests. One of the most captivating highlights is the Mudiyaettu, a traditional ritualistic performance symbolizing the defeat of the demon Daruka by Devi Bhadrakali which is accompanied by ritual songs, vibrant floor drawings and devotional music.
Another remarkable feature is Garudan Thookkam, a spectacular ritual where devotees with utmost faith participate in lifting and balancing ceremonial effigies as an offering to the goddess.
