Pratishtadina Mahotsavam at Sree Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Ernakulam is one of the most revered and eagerly anticipated temple festivals in Kerala, attracting devotees from all over the region. This grand celebration honors the divine installation of the deity, Sree Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and is marked by a vibrant blend of religious rituals, traditional arts and cultural performances.
The festival is a unique occasion for devotees to seek blessings for prosperity, health and spiritual upliftment and it embodies the rich cultural heritage of Kerala’s temple traditions.
The day begins with the ceremonial Ganapathi Homam invoking Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles and bless the devotees. This is followed by the Kalasham ritual which involves sacred offerings such as Navakam and Panchagavya, symbolizing purity and divine grace. Prasanna Pooja, a special worship service is performed with devotion accompanied by the chanting of Vedic hymns creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere within the temple premises.
In the evening, the temple comes alive with the Thalappoli procession where devotees carry beautifully decorated lamps in a show of collective devotion creating a mesmerizing visual spectacle. The Deepaaradhana (lamp worship) adds to the spiritual ambiance with rows of flickering lamps illuminating the temple in a serene glow. The festival also showcases traditional Kerala art forms including Kaikottikali and Kolkkali performed by women and men respectively, alongside vibrant group dance performances and children’s cultural programs.
