Kothakulangara Sree Bhagavathy Temple near one kilometer north Angamaly. one of the 108 and centuries old Durga Temple which is installed by lord Parasurama. According to a popular legend; in ancient days one Nampoothiri was carrying a Bhagavathy statue on the way to his home. Thiruvutsavam Kothakulangara Bhagavathy Temple Ernakulam Kerala Upon seeing a pond he placed the statue on the banks and began to bath in the pond. After some time he heard a sound of somebody jumping into water. The statue was missing. He realized that the Bhagavathy wanted to stay at that Place. He named the place Kotha kulam kara. Kotha is the other name of Bhagavathy, kulam is the Malayalam word for "pond" and kara is the Malayalam word for "place".

The temple festival starts with hoisting of the flag, Kodiyettam on the day one. Daily poojas include ashtabhishekam, kalabhabhishekam, deeparadhana, bhajans, thayambaka, etc. Aarattu purappadu is an important ritual on mornings from the second day.Chakyarkoothu, Ottanthullal, Kathakali, and such classical art forms are presented at the temple during the festival days. The popular folk art, Kurathiyattam is presented on one of those days. Various cultural programmes like dance shows, ganamela, Bale, etc is staged on the festival days.On the seventh afternoon, a spectacular procession led by three caparisoned tuskers takes place. One of the tuskers will carry the symbolic image of the deity. Temple percussion music seta a vigorous rhythm to the procession. On the last day, Aarattu marks the conclusion of the festival.
