The myth behind the temple is a story related to a low caste lady. Once this lady was cutting bamboo stem from a nearby forest area. And in order to sharpen the knife she made it rub along a rock nearby. Suddenly the rock started bleeding and by seeing this she fainted. Her husband who was nearby called his son's name loudly as "Kandankora..." As a surprise to him this call was answered by the stone. By knowing this incident the people from nearby places came there.

Long years back, Sanalkumara Maharshi installed this idol of Subramanya here. With flow of time the temple was dismantled and people made a new idol and invoked the power into that idol. But only a small amount of energy was invoked by them. And he asked the people to reinstall this rock idol where he will shoot five arrows, out of which one will not be able to be pulled out. Then the people asked that, this idol is distorted due to this injury, then how could they install it. And the lady replied that, it is ok with the rock idol and asked them to modify the idol with Panchaloham (mixture of five metals) and Sandal. The Thiruvutsavam is conducted as a remembrance of this incident and they play a special instrument (Pulathudi) for all the three Seevelis in order to remember the low caste lady who got the divine order from the Lord.
