Makam Thozhal is one of the most spiritually significant observances associated with the revered temple at Chottanikkara in Ernakulam district. Celebrated with deep devotion and traditional grandeur, this sacred ritual draws thousands of devotees from across Kerala and beyond.
The festival is observed on the auspicious Makam star day in the Malayalam month of Kumbham, a time considered highly powerful for worshipping the Divine Mother.
During Makam Thozhal, devotees gather in large numbers to seek the blessings of Goddess Bhagavathy believing that prayers offered on this day bring prosperity, protection and relief from difficulties. The temple comes alive with devotional chants, traditional music and rituals performed according to ancient customs. Special poojas and abhishekam are conducted throughout the day, while the sanctum is beautifully decorated and radiates divine energy.
