Thrikkakkara Vamana Moorthy Temple is one of the most significant and ancient Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Vamana, the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple holds immense religious, cultural and historical importance and is deeply associated with the legendary story of King Mahabali and the origin of the Onam festival.

According to tradition, Lord Vamana appeared before King Mahabali in the form of a young Brahmin and requested three steps of land. Once granted, Vamana grew into a gigantic form and covered the earth and heavens in two steps, symbolizing the restoration of cosmic balance and humility of the devoted king. The temple is renowned as a major centre of Onam celebrations which is its most important annual festival. The festival is observed over ten days with great devotion, cultural richness and community participation. Each day is marked by special rituals, traditional music, dance performances and elaborate temple decorations. The idol of Lord Vamana is ceremonially adorned in different forms representing the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu creating a spiritually vibrant atmosphere throughout the festival period. A key highlight of the celebration is the grand procession known as Seeveli and Pakalpooram where the deity is taken around the temple premises accompanied by caparisoned elephants and traditional percussion ensembles like Panchavadyam and Chenda Melam. Onam Festival

Each day of the festival features special rituals, traditional poojas and elaborate decorations of the deity representing the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu. Grand processions such as Pakalpooram and Seeveli are conducted with caparisoned elephants, Panchavadyam, and Chenda Melam, creating a vibrant and divine atmosphere. A major highlight is the Onasadya, a grand community feast served to thousands of devotees symbolizing unity, equality and devotion.

Vishu Festival
Vishu Festival is another important celebration at the temple, marking the Malayalam New Year and symbolizing prosperity and new beginnings. The day begins with Vishukkani, an auspicious arrangement of sacred items such as rice, fruits, flowers, coins and lamps which devotees view early in the morning for blessings of prosperity and good fortune. Special poojas and offerings are conducted in the temple dedicated to Lord Vamana, seeking happiness, success, and well-being for devotees. The festival atmosphere is filled with devotion and positivity attracting large numbers of devotees who participate in rituals like Vishu Kaineettam and prayers for a prosperous year ahead.
