The presiding deity of the temple is Goddess Mariamman. Mariamman is considered an avatar of Goddess Parvati, representing the goddess of medicine and good health in Hindu mythology.
Devotees worship Mariamman seeking her blessings for curing diseases, ensuring good health, and overcoming obstacles.
Festivals
The Temple has a number of festivals. The important ones are :
Mavilakku Samarppanam
The ingredients including finely ground rice powder, jaggery, ghee, black raisins, banana, and honey, are mixed together to create a dough-like substance. This mixture is used to make lamps in various shapes, where coconut oil is poured into plates and kizhi filled with rice is tied and lit. The process of cooking this dough mixture to create lamps is known as maavialku. The absence of water in the mixture ensures that the lamps burn steadily and emit a pleasant fragrance, adding to the ambiance of religious rituals or ceremonies.
Manjal Neerattu
Manjal Neerattu is a traditional ritual observed in some temples, particularly in Kerala, where devotees participate in splashing boiling turmeric water on their bodies using a "thengin pookola" (coconut leaf stalk). This practice is believed to have purifying and healing properties, and devotees engage in it as an act of devotion and seeking blessings.
