തിരുവുത്സവം 2026 ശ്രീ തലത്തോട്ട മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം ആലപ്പുഴ | Thiruvutsavam 2026 Sri Thalathotta Mahadeva Temple Alappuzha
The annual festival at Sri Thalathotta Mahadeva Temple in Haripad, Alappuzha, is a vibrant celebration of devotion, tradition and community. Spanning eight days the Thiruvutsavam is marked by a series of elaborate rituals, cultural performances and sacred observances dedicated to Lord Shiva the presiding deity of the temple. The festival begins with Thrikodiyettam which symbolizes the formal commencement of the festivities. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the flag being hoisted on the twin flagpoles representing the south and north deities, Dakshinamurthi and Vadakkumnatha with equal reverence.
Throughout the festival, mornings are filled with devotional Harinam Keerthanam and Bhagavatha Parayanam offering devotees an opportunity to engage in collective prayer and scripture recitation. Special ritual offerings such as Kodikkur and Kodikayaru Samarpanam are performed with accompanying traditional percussion ensembles like Panchavadyam, Nadaswaram, and Melam, creating a divine atmosphere resonating throughout the temple premises.
The festival also highlights Kerala’s rich performing arts tradition. Kathakali performances depicting stories like Bali Vadham and Dakshayagam, Velakali and Mayooranrutham are showcased with grandeur, involving skilled artists from renowned institutions and local performers. These art forms not only entertain but also convey mythological narratives and spiritual teachings bringing the legends of Lord Shiva and Subrahmanya alive for the devotees.
Evening rituals are equally captivating, featuring Deeparadhana, Deepakkazhcha and the ceremonial Pallivetta, which symbolize the divine hunt of the deity. The festival culminates with Thiruarattu, the holy bath of the deity in the temple pond accompanied by devotional songs, lamps and fireworks, marking a joyful conclusion.
Special arrangements are made for devotees to offer prayers including the ceremonial para offerings and kudam dhara, which are believed to fulfill wishes and bring prosperity. The festival is supported by the temple committee, local community and volunteers ensuring that every ritual is performed with precision and devotion.
