The annual festival at Sri Thalathotta Mahadeva Temple in Haripad, Alappuzha, is a vibrant celebration of devotion, tradition and community. Spanning eight days the Thiruvutsavam is marked by a series of elaborate rituals, cultural performances and sacred observances dedicated to Lord Shiva the presiding deity of the temple. The festival begins with Thrikodiyettam which symbolizes the formal commencement of the festivities. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the flag being hoisted on the twin flagpoles representing the south and north deities, Dakshinamurthi and Vadakkumnatha with equal reverence.
