തിരുവുത്സവം 2026 ഐത്തിട്ട അഞ്ചുമലനട ശിവക്ഷേത്ര ആലപ്പുഴ | Thiruvutsavam Iythitta Anchumalanada Shiva Temple Alappuzha
The Thiruvutsavam festival at Iythitta Anchumalanada Shiva Temple in Alappuzha is one of the most revered and spiritually vibrant celebrations in the region, attracting devotees from far and wide. Traditionally observed over several days, the festival is a blend of devotional rituals, cultural programs and community participation all dedicated to Lord Shiva the presiding deity of the temple.
The festivities begin each morning with the Nadathurakkal followed by Abhishekam, Ganapathi Homam and Usha Pooja. These rituals are performed with great devotion under the guidance of the temple’s chief priest and senior officials, ensuring that every ceremony reflects the rich heritage and sacred traditions of the temple.
A central feature of the festival is the Sapthaha Yajnam, a continuous seven-day recitation of the Srimad Bhagavatam. The Yajnam includes discourses by learned Acharyas, devotional singing and storytelling that narrates the lives and exploits of Lord Vishnu’s various incarnations and other divine events. This spiritual program is complemented by the Vishnusahasranama recitation and other sacred offerings, allowing devotees to immerse themselves in devotion and gain spiritual merit.
Each day also features special rituals such as Kalashabhishekam, Marappani, Palabhishekam and Thalappoli processions where the temple premises are decorated with lamps, flowers and traditional motifs. Devotees offer Annadanam contributing to the sense of unity and sharing among participants. In the evenings, Deeparadhana and Deeppakazhcha create a mesmerizing spiritual ambience.
Cultural events form an important part of the festival. Traditional art forms like Thiruvathira, Kathakali, Kuthiyottam, violin fusion and karaoke singing are performed by local artists and youth groups enhancing the festive atmosphere and connecting devotees to Kerala’s rich artistic heritage. Special processions, including Swamy Vahana Yatra and Ghoshayatra showcase the deity in grandeur accompanied by devotional music and drum ensembles.
The festival concludes with the Uthram Thirumahotsavam and Re Concentration Ceremony marking the spiritual culmination of the celebrations. Devotees take part in the final Abhishekam, Shiva Purana recitation and Maha Nivedyam followed by a grand procession through the temple and surrounding areas symbolizing the divine presence blessing the community.
