തിരുവാതിര മഹോത്സവം 2026 വിലാഞ്ഞൂർ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം ആലപ്പുഴ | Thiruvathira Mahotsavam 2026 Vilanjoor Sree Mahadeva Temple Alappuzha
This annual festival honors Lord Shiva with a series of sacred rituals, traditional music, devotional performances and community offerings, drawing devotees from across Alappuzha and nearby regions. The festival begins with the recitation of the Narayaneeya Parayanam performed by the temple’s dedicated Parayanam Samithis creating a serene and devotional atmosphere early in the morning.
The mornings of the festival are marked by deeparadhana, palliyunarthal and sahasrakalasham, where thousands of sacred pots are offered as part of the devotion. Special rituals such as utsavabali and katcha sreebali allow devotees to participate directly in the ceremonial offerings to the deity while annadanam provides free meals to devotees reflecting the temple’s tradition of service and community support.
Throughout the festival, the temple grounds come alive with traditional Kerala art forms. Devotional Sopan Sangeetham, Thiruvathirakali and other classical performances are presented by local artists and temple music schools, adding cultural richness to the religious proceedings. Chenda and Panchari Melams performed by highly skilled percussion ensembles energize the festival with their rhythmic beats culminating in the grand celebrations of Maha Shivaratri on February 15. The procession of the sacred Kavadis and special Tulabharam ceremonies highlight the devotional fervor of this period.
The festival concludes on February 17, 2026 with Aarattu, the ceremonial bathing of the deity accompanied by devotional music and cultural events. Thiruvathira Mahotsavam is not only a spiritual experience but also a cultural feast, providing devotees a chance to immerse themselves in tradition, music, dance and community devotion making it one of the most anticipated temple festivals in Alappuzha.
