Sree Thalathotta Mahadeva Temple located at Vettuveni near Harippad in Alappuzha district of Kerala is a revered ancient temple with a unique spiritual and cultural heritage. The temple is exceptional in that Lord Parameshwara is worshipped in two sanctums with equal importance manifesting as Dakshinamurthy and Vadakkumnathan. Sree Thalathotta Mahadeva Temple Festival at 2026 This rare form of worship, along with the presence of two flagstaffs and the conduct of rituals with equal prominence, makes the temple one of the most distinctive Shiva temples in the region. The annual festival of the temple is a vibrant blend of devotion, ritual precision and traditional temple arts, deeply rooted in Kerala’s age old customs. The festival begins with the ceremonial flag hoisting marking the formal commencement of the celebrations, and continues for several days with a series of elaborate poojas, abhishekams and offerings performed according to traditional tantric rites. Daily Harinama Keerthanam and Bhagavatha Parayanam create an atmosphere filled with spiritual energy drawing devotees from nearby villages and distant places alike.

A major highlight of the festival is the prominence given to classical temple art forms. Performances such as Kathakali, Chakyar Koothu, Ottanthullal, Sopana Sangeetham, Velakali, Thiruvathira and Mayura Nritham are presented by renowned artists and institutions, preserving and showcasing Kerala’s rich artistic heritage. These offerings are not merely performances but acts of devotion presented as vazhipadu before the deity. The grand rituals of Pallivetta and Aarattu form the spiritual climax of the celebrations. The Aarattu procession accompanied by traditional percussion ensembles and devotional music reflects the collective faith and unity of the community. The participation of devotees through offerings like Chuttuvilakku, Kettukazhcha, Nirapara and special alankarams adds to the inclusive and communal nature of the festival.
