The Shrimad Bhagavatha Saptaha Jnana Yajnam 2026 at Gandharvamuttam Bhagavathy Temple in Alappuzha is one of the most revered spiritual events in the region attracting devotees from across Kerala and beyond
This sacred festival is held annually to honor Bhagavathy, the divine mother and to celebrate the profound teachings of the Shrimad Bhagavatham, composed by the sage Vedavyasa Maharshi. The festival spans seven days during which devotees engage in continuous recitation of the Bhagavatham, listen to spiritual discourses and participate in devotional rituals that aim to purify the mind and elevate the soul.
The event is deeply rooted in Kerala’s traditional temple culture and is considered an ideal opportunity for devotees to seek spiritual guidance, blessings, and liberation from worldly difficulties. Each day of the Saptaha Yajnam is meticulously planned beginning with early morning rituals and recitations followed by elaborate poojas, offerings and cultural programs that include devotional music and classical performances. The atmosphere in the temple is charged with devotion with devotees observing fasts, performing Pongala offerings and actively participating in the daily rituals.
A special highlight of the festival is the Alankara Gopuram Samarpanam where the temple’s decorated tower is ceremoniously offered to the deity. Additionally, the Punah Pratishta Varshikam is observed commemorating the reinstallation of the deity and reinforcing the spiritual sanctity of the temple. The festival also emphasizes the importance of listening to and reflecting upon the teachings of the Bhagavatham, which provide moral guidance, philosophical insights and encouragement for leading a righteous life in the challenging times of Kaliyuga.
