Pooramahotsavam 2025 | Aravukad Sreedevi Temple Alappuzha

The Pooramahotsavam at Aruvakkad Sreedevi Temple in Alappuzha is an annual 10-day festival celebrated during March or April (Meenam), attracting devotees from all around for vibrant rituals and cultural events.

Pooramahotsavam is a ten day festival celebrated at the Aravukad Sreedevi Temple in the month of Meenam. This temple is dedicated to Devi and is represented in her fierce form - the one assumed to kill the mighty demon Daruka. Pooramahotsavam  Aravukad Sreedevi Temple Alappuzha Kerala The idol is designed out of Krishna Sila and represents the different forms of the Devi - as Saraswathi, Parvathi and Lakshmi. She is said to have washed her sword in the Temple pond behind the temple. This pond is still conserved as a holy lake. The Devi of Aravukad temple is said to be the sister of the Devi of Kannichakulangara and Kodungalloor. Lord Shiva, Saraswathi, Gosala Krishnan, Kodum Kali, Navgrahas and Subrahmanya Swami are the important upadevatas in this famous temple. Special poojas are performed for the fulfilment of various desires of the devotees.

The Festival of this Devi Temple starts in the Malayalam month of Meenam from Bharani to Pooram for ten days. People from various parts of the state come to the temple to witness the festivities and programs. Thiripidutham, holding of the Lighted torch is a very important offering in which thousands of devotees are participating. Traditional performing arts, music and dance are staged during the period. There is a flag hoisting ceremony to mark the beginning of the festival. The shrine is traditionally decorated with plantain, coconut leaves, flowers, traditional lamps and lights. The Arattu festival attracts thousands of devotees. The utsava murti of the deity is taken for ritualistic purification by water on the Aarattu day. On the tenth day of the festival after the Deeparadhana, devotees take a dip in the Temple Pond and come before the temple in wet clothes. The priest then gives a lighted torch to the devotees and they go round the temple in Prathikshna. It is believed that the ritual will please the Goddess who will grant them their wishes.
