Chakkulathukavu Pongala 2025, one of Kerala’s most revered women-led religious festivals, will be observed on December 4, 2025, at the sacred Sree Bhagavathy Temple in Chakkulathukavu, Neerettupuram, Alappuzha. Each year, lakhs of women devotees from across Kerala and neighboring states gather around the temple premises to participate in this auspicious ritual.
The Pongala offering—prepared using rice, jaggery, coconut, and ghee in traditional clay pots—is cooked in designated spaces stretching for kilometers around the temple, symbolizing devotion, purity, and gratitude to Goddess Bhagavathy. The holy fire for the Pongala is lit from the temple sanctum, marking the official beginning of the ritual. Throughout the day, the atmosphere resonates with devotional chants, bhajans, temple drums, and the presence of dedicated volunteers ensuring the smooth conduct of the event.
