The Meena Bharani Mahotsavam 2026 at Parayarukala Devi Temple, located near Chengannur in Alappuzha district is one of the most spiritually vibrant annual festivals celebrated in the region.
Observed during the Malayalam month of Meenam, this grand festival draws hundreds of devotees who gather to seek the blessings of Goddess Bhagavathy with deep devotion and traditional fervor.
The tenday celebration begins with the sacred Thrikodiyettu marking the formal commencement of the festival rituals. Each day is filled with special poojas, devotional offerings and temple rites performed strictly according to age-old tantric traditions. The temple premises transform into a vibrant spiritual center where the rhythmic sounds of traditional percussion, devotional chants and lamps illuminate the divine atmosphere.
One of the major highlights of the festival is the Pongala where women devotees offer prayers by preparing a sacred offering to the Goddess symbolizing gratitude and devotion. The Revathi Vilakku and Lakshadeepam ceremony adds to the divine splendor as thousands of lamps are lit creating a mesmerizing spiritual ambiance. The Kettukazhcha featuring beautifully decorated temple structures and ceremonial displays reflects Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and community participation.
The festival also includes Pallivetta, a symbolic royal hunt ritual and concludes with the holy Aarattu procession where the deity is ceremoniously taken for ritual bathing marking the grand finale of the celebrations.
