The 40th Sreemad Devi Bhagavatha Parayana Navaaha Yajnam & Lakshadeepam 2026 at Karazhma Sree Durga Devi Temple in Alappuzha is a grand and spiritually enriching nine day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga.
This annual event brings together devotees from across Kerala to participate in a series of sacred rituals, Vedic recitations, homams and devotional offerings designed to invoke divine blessings for prosperity, health, and spiritual growth.
The festival begins with the chanting of the Harinaama Keerthanam early in the morning, followed by traditional homams including Ganapathi Homam, Gayatri Homam, Saptashathi Homam and Navakshari Homam, all of which are conducted under strict Vedic rituals to purify the environment and prepare the mind of the devotees for the spiritual practices of the day. Central to the festival is the Sreemad Devi Bhagavatha Parayana, where key sections of the sacred text including episodes like the killing of Mahishasura the divine manifestations of Goddess Mahalakshmi and other divine leelas are recited with devotion and precision.
Special poojas like Kumari Pooja performed for young girls aged 2–10 are conducted to seek the Goddess’s blessings for prosperity, health, and overall well being. Other significant rituals include Sarpa Bali, Navagraha Pooja, Deeparadhana and Lakshadeepam, where thousands of oil lamps are lit to symbolize divine illumination and spiritual awakening. Cultural programs such as devotional music concerts, traditional dances and community offerings like Annadana further enrich the festival experience.
The Navaaha Yajnam also includes remedial rituals for planetary doshas, family welfare and overcoming obstacles, allowing devotees to actively participate in the spiritual process. Each day, offerings are meticulously prepared and dedicated to the Goddess, reflecting deep devotion and adherence to tradition. Over the years, this festival has become a beacon of faith, community harmony and religious fervor making it one of the most important and revered celebrations at Karazhma Sree Durga Devi Temple.
