Kavadikku Malayidunnathu is one of the most anticipated and visually spectacular festivals celebrated at Sree Bala Subramanyaswamy Temple in Alappuzha. This festival is dedicated to Lord Subramanya, the revered deity of the temple and showcases the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of Kerala.
Devotees from across the region gather in large numbers to participate in this unique event which is known for its vibrant processions, rhythmic music and elaborate decorations.
During the festival, devotees carry Kavadi, beautifully adorned structures as an offering to the deity. The Kavadis are decorated with fresh flowers, colorful fabrics and intricate ornaments, making the procession a breathtaking sight. Many participants observe fasts and perform special prayers in the days leading up to the festival, seeking blessings for health, prosperity, and spiritual well-being. Traditional percussion instruments including chenda and thavil accompany the procession creating an energetic and devotional atmosphere throughout the temple grounds.
