Makara Mahotsavam is one of the most revered and vibrant festivals celebrated at Mangalathu Sree Mahavishnu Temple in Alappuzha, Kerala.
This annual festival draws devotees from across the region who come to seek the blessings of Lord Mahavishnu and the temple deities.
The festival features a rich schedule of religious events, beginning with daily poojas and special offerings to the presiding deity. Devotees participate in Pattu and Thali Charthal which are traditional ceremonial practices performed with great devotion to honor the gods. These rituals symbolize prosperity and divine protection for the devotees and the local community.
A highlight of the festival is the Ottathalam arrival for Bhuvaneshwari Amma and Bhadrakali Amma, where the deities are adorned and offered elaborate prayers accompanied by traditional music and percussion instruments. This ritual is believed to invoke the divine presence and blessings of the goddesses bringing peace and harmony to the devotees’ lives.
