Maha Shiva Purana Pooja & Shivaratri Mahotsavam is one of the most significant and spiritually vibrant festivals celebrated at Kunnath Mahadeva Temple in Alappuzha. The Mahotsavam begins with a series of elaborate poojas and abhishekams conducted by the temple’s chief priest, Kavalam Ratheesh Chandran, along with Parimala Babu as the assistant priest. Special homams and yajnas are performed by traditional yajna hotavs such as Govindan Namboothiri of Kannur creating a sacred atmosphere that fills the temple with divine vibrations. Devotees also participate in various offerings and rituals seeking blessings for prosperity, health and spiritual growth.
Throughout the festival, the temple comes alive with vibrant cultural programs showcasing classical music, devotional singing and traditional dance forms.
