Thiruvutsavam at Cherthala Sree Karthyayani Devi Temple, Alappuzha is one of the most revered and vibrant temple festivals in Kerala celebrated with deep devotion, traditional rituals and cultural grandeur.
The festival honors Devi Karthyayani, the presiding goddess of the temple who is worshipped for her divine blessings, protection, and guidance. Devotees from across Kerala and beyond gather at the temple to participate in the festivities making it a significant spiritual and cultural event in the region.
The festival is marked by a series of elaborate poojas, homams and ceremonial offerings that reflect the rich ritualistic heritage of Kerala temples. Each day of the festival features unique rituals and celebrations including special worship ceremonies dedicated to different nakshatras and auspicious stars which are believed to bring prosperity, health and spiritual upliftment to devotees.
One of the main attractions of the festival is the Aarattu, a grand ceremonial bath of the deity idol in the temple pond symbolizing purification and divine grace.
Alongside the religious ceremonies, Thiruvutsavam is also celebrated with vibrant cultural programs that showcase Kerala’s classical and folk art forms.
