Paraykku Ezhunnallippu 2026 at Sree Sakthikulangara Devi Temple, Alappuzha is one of the most cherished pre festival traditions of the temple, attracting devotees from across Kerala. This ritual, held annually in the month of Kumbham (February–March), is a unique procession in which devotees offer “para” a traditional measure of rice or grains as a token of devotion and gratitude to the goddess.
The offerings are collected from various homes and community centers creating a vibrant network of faith and participation throughout the surrounding villages.
The festival spans three days, starting with ceremonial preparations at the temple premises and the surrounding Mathams. On each day, the collected paras are carried in a grand procession along designated routes passing through neighboring villages, temples and sacred spots. The procession is accompanied by traditional music, drums and chants creating a spiritual and festive atmosphere. Devotees line the streets to witness the procession, offer prayers and receive blessings from the goddess.
Families take pride in contributing their offerings while local artists and performers participate in various traditional art forms during the procession.
The festival culminates at the Sree Sakthikulangara Devi Temple where the paras are ceremoniously presented to the deity followed by special poojas and abhishekams.
This festival highlights the temple’s role as a center of spiritual life, devotion and culture in Alappuzha. It is a vivid display of faith tradition and collective celebration offering devotees a chance to connect deeply with the divine, preserve heritage rituals and participate in a centuries old tradition that continues to inspire devotion and community spirit.
