Thiruvutsavam 2026 at Thrichengannur Mahadevar Temple, Alappuzha, is a grand and spiritually vibrant festival celebrated with devotion, art and community participation. The festival spans several days and features a rich blend of religious rituals, classical performances and cultural events that highlight Kerala’s traditional heritage.
Each day of the festival is meticulously planned to offer devotees an immersive spiritual experience beginning with early morning devotional sessions like Namasankeerthanam, where participants sing sacred hymns to invoke the blessings of Lord Shiva. This is followed by Puranaparayanam, the recitation of ancient scriptures fostering a serene and pious atmosphere.
During the daytime, devotees witness the Soundaryalahari Parayanam and can participate in the viewing of Utsavabali which showcases offerings to the deity, performed by prominent members of the local community. The festival also features Thiruvathira, a traditional ritual dance performed by women in devotion reflecting the cultural essence of Kerala. These ceremonies are complemented by the Deepaaradhana and Deepakkazhcha where the temple is illuminated with rows of lamps, creating a divine spectacle that captivates all attendees.
One of the festival’s highlights is the Kathakali performances which bring the epics to life. Stories like Nalacharitham and Kiratham are enacted over several hours, featuring skilled performers in elaborate costumes intricate makeup and expressive gestures. Talented artists such as Vaishakh Rajasekharan, Harikrishnan, Shibi Chakravarthy, Vishnu Mon and others perform the roles of Nalan, Jeevalan, Arjun and Shiva among others accompanied by traditional music and percussion instruments like Chenda and Maddalam. Music is provided by renowned artists including Nedumpulli Ram Mohan and Jishnu Orupulassery enhancing the emotive storytelling and spiritual ambiance.
