The Chakkulathukavu Pongala at Chakkulathukavu Sree Bhagavathi Temple, Alappuzha is one of the most prominent and widely celebrated devotional festivals in Kerala attracting thousands of women devotees from across the state and beyond.
This festival is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi, the presiding deity of the temple and is an expression of deep devotion, faith and spiritual fervor. Pongala is a ritual in which women prepare a special offering of rice, jaggery, coconut and other ingredients in clay pots cooked over open hearths outside the temple premises. The act of offering Pongala is considered a highly auspicious ritual believed to bring blessings, prosperity and fulfillment of desires.
