Nestled in Karazhma East, under Valiyakulangara PO in Mavelikara, Alappuzha district, this sacred grove (Sarpa Kavu) lies amid lush paddy fields and small waterways, just off the Karazhma–Chennithala road. It’s accessible via local buses from Mavelikara town, approximately 6–8 km away.
Managed by the Keerthimangalathu Kudumba Kshethram Trust, this private Sarpa Kavu is dedicated to the traditional worship of Naga Devatas (serpent gods), revered as guardians of fertility and ecological balance. Set in a protected patch of forest, the grove features old banyan and sacred trees, snake idols nestled under leafy canopies, and a small natural pond. The space embodies ancient Tamil–Kerala traditions of conserving nature through devotion.
Held annually during the Ayilyam nakshatra season, this ritual features offerings of milk, turmeric, and flowers to snake idols, accompanied by Pulluvan Paattu traditional folk chants performed by Pulluvan and Pulluvathi artists to invoke blessings and protection.
Marking the trust’s founding, this yearly commemoration includes flag-hoisting (Kodiyettu), group worship, and community feasts. The grove is also opened briefly during this day to invite local families and rejuvenate ancestral ties.
