Cheriyanad Sree BalaSubrahmanya Temple Alappuzha

The Cheriyanad Sree BalaSubrahmanya Temple is located in Cheriyanad, in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, India.

The main deity of the temple is Lord Subrahmanya (Muruga), who is worshipped as the principal murti. The temple features a Vattashrikovil covered with copper, known as Haripattulla, and it faces east. The temple conducts five daily pujas and three shivelis to honor the deity.

Skanda Shashti

Shastivratam, observed at Cheriyanad Sree BalaSubrahmanya Temple, is a significant fast dedicated to pleasing Lord Subrahmanya, particularly sought by those desiring a son. Skanda Shashti, celebrated fervently at the temple, marks the victory of Lord Subrahmanya over the demon Shurapadmasura, observed with rituals and fasting spanning six days. Devotees engage in prayers and rituals during this period, seeking the divine blessings of Lord Subrahmanya for protection and prosperity.

Thai Puyam

Thai Puyam is a significant festival celebrated at Cheriyanad Sree BalaSubrahmanya Temple on Puyam day in the Tamil month of Thai (Makara month in Malayalam Panchang). It marks the birthday of Lord Subramanya and his victory over the demon Tarakasura. The celebrations include the vibrant ritual dance of Kavadiyattam, where devotees carry kavadis as offerings to the deity, showcasing their deep devotion and reverence.
