The temple's idol represents the Parthasarathi form of Vishnu, depicted with a whip in his right hand and a conch in his left.According to legend, Lord Krishna once appeared as a sage in the king's court and challenged him to a game of chess, with rice grains as the prize. The sage asked for a modest reward of rice grains, doubling on each square of the chessboard.
As the king realized the enormity of the sage's request, he couldn't fulfill it, as the amount of rice required grew exponentially with each square. The story symbolizes the boundless generosity and abundance associated with Lord Krishna.

Amabalapuzha Temple Festival
The Amabalapuzha Temple Festival, also known as the Chambakulam Moolam water festival, has its origins in the fifteenth century AD during the rule of the Chembakassery Devanarayana Dynasty. It commemorates the bringing of an idol of Lord Krishna from the Karinkulam temple to the Amabalapuzha Sree Krishna Swamy Temple. Celebrated annually on the Moolam day of the Mithunam month in the Malayalam era, the festival features vibrant processions, cultural performances, and rituals to honor Lord Krishna, attracting devotees from near and far seeking blessings and expressing their devotion.
Aaraattu Festival
The Aaraattu festival at the Amabalapuzha Sree Krishna Swamy Temple takes place on the Thiruvonam day in March-april. During this auspicious occasion, the deity of Lord Krishna is taken out in a grand procession and immersed in the temple tank or a nearby water body, symbolizing purification and renewal. Devotees from different parts of the region gather to witness this sacred event and seek the divine blessings of Lord Krishna.
